Head of Research and Fellow Management

Barbara holds a Ph.D. in American studies and has a long experience working in international research management. She was a fundraiser with the German Academic Exchange Service and then ran the executive board’s office at the University of Heidelberg. Moving on to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, she was in charge of strategic planning and of a fellowship program for at-risk researchers.

At THE NEW INSTITUTE, she is responsible for overseeing the fellow groups and supporting them in their work, so that "insight" may turn into "action".

  • What gives you hope?
    That change has happened before.

  • How does change happen?
When an idea turns into a movement.

  • What is the best advice you ever got?
Paths are created by walking them.
