Liz Willetts


Strategic Advisor and Consultant Biodiversity and Health, Planetary Health, and One Health

BIO

Liz is a Strategic Advisor and Consultant on biodiversity and health, planetary health, and One Health for UN institutions, governments, health and environmental organizations, and philanthropies, among others. She is an internationally recognized expert in interdisciplinary policy analysis and communications with experience in mobilizing knowledge and engagement on biodiversity, climate change, pollution, food systems, and community health for marginalized populations. She has written landmark science-policy guides and briefs for the International Institute for Sustainable Development, the World Health Organization, and many others. Recruited as Planetary Health Policy Director for the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, she served this role as visiting scholar for the 2023-2024 year. Liz is an Instructor of the Global Governance of the Health - Environment Nexus at the University of Edinburgh Global Health Academy and is the Lead on Nature & Mental Health for the IUCN CEM Ecosystem Management and Human Health Thematic Group. Liz’s work draws on 15-years’ experience tracking intergovernmental negotiations across over a dozen multilateral environmental agreements and 8 years as a community medicine clinician in low resource clinics in the U.S., Central America, and Micronesia.

At THE NEW INSTITUTE, Liz is involved in the The Future of Food: Power and Biodiversity program. She joins us in the winter term of 2025.
