Akwugo Emejulu and Dominique Haensell both deal with Black Feminism in their writing, focusing on racial, gender, and class inequalities – one as a political sociologist primarily in the academic discourse, the other as an author and Co-Editor-in-Chief of Missy Magazine. On this stage they will have a conversation about topics that affect women of colour, from intersectionality and post-colonialism to activism for justice.
Both are also passionate readers, drawing inspiration from works of fiction. Their conversation will explore questions like: What significance do novels have for their theoretical work? Which books have particularly inspired their feminist thinking? What kind of literature really brings about social change?
We invite everyone to take part in this discussion! It will be moderated by Lubi Barre. She is a writer of poetry and short stories. Her publications include pieces in the anthology "My Old Man" from Cannongate, the German language collection "Here and There" from Punktum Verlag, and the anthology "Kontinentaldrift- Das Schwarze Europa" from Wunderhorn Verlag. Lubi is also the founder of the independent reading series Sprachlos and FRAMED.
