Let's talk books: Right-Wing Extremism
Join us on Wednesday, July 31, at the Bookstore as Johann Hinrich Claussen and Liane Bednarz present two new books that decipher the line between conservative and right-wing.
Right-Wing Extremism, the New Normal? Since the founding of the AfD, there has been a great deal of confusion about where conservative thinking ends and right-wing thinking in all its facets, from right-wing populist to right-wing radical to right-wing extremist, begins. Many people who consider themselves conservative have been seduced by the narratives of the AfD and the New Right because they trivialize themselves by calling themselves conservative. This has allowed nationalist thinking to penetrate the center of society.
Johann Hinrich Claussen and Liane Bednarz present two recent books that decipher the line between conservative and right-wing.
Liane Bednarz is a liberal-conservative journalist with a doctorate in law specializing in the New Right and religious movements. She is a columnist for the Heinrich Böll Foundation. Her book "Die Angstprediger - Wie rechte Christen unterwandern Gesellschaft und Kirchen" was published by Droemer in 2018.
Johann Hinrich Claussen is a Protestant theologian and writer. He works as a cultural representative of the Evangelical Church in Berlin. In 2021 he published the book "Christentum von rechts. Theological Research and Critique" (Mohr Siebeck). His new book will be published at the end of August: "God's Images. A History of Christian Art" (C.H. Beck).
