Marina Garcés

Programme Philosophy of Contemporary Challenges, Open University of Catalonia

Marina is director of the Master and Research Programm of Philosophy for Contemporary Challenges at the Open University of Catalonia. In her work she focuses on politics and critical thinking. Additionally, she expresses the need for a philosophical voice that is capable of challenging and engaging. In one of her most famous books, “A new radical enlightenment” (2017), she rethinks the relation of the human to the world and criticizes how easily humans accept forms of oppression nowadays instead of striving for dignity and freedom. Next to her professorship at the Open University of Catalonia, Marina is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fundació l'ARC, devoted to arts as social transformation, and founder of the collective project Espai en Blanc.

Marina joined THE NEW INSTITUTE in the summer of 2022, and is involved in the programme “The Foundations of Value and Values“.
