Thalia Nachtasyl

We invite you to an evening with Kohei Saito at Nachtasyl in conversation with Joachim Lux und Christina Bellingen.

About

Sustainable consumption, green growth – can such measures stop climate change?

The Japanese philosopher Kohei Saito is all the rage, and he says: No. In his book “Capital in the Anthropocene”, he demonstrates how the foundations of capitalism inhabit the basic logics of an exploitation of humanity and nature. He argues for systemic change founded in democratically managed common goods. Combining his ideas with readings of Karl Marx, he arrives at the concept of degrowth – a way of living that dismisses the centrality of production and consumption. These are questions that are also discussed on theatre stages. Is sustainable life possible? Joachim Lux in conversation with Saito on his utopian theory and with the dramaturge Christina Bellingen on the transferal of T.C. Boyle’s dystopia “Blue Skies” to the stage.
